When skin is damaged, scars occur. Scars formation is a natural healing process during which fibrous tissues replace normal skin during an injury. They are collection of collagen and classified into hypertrophic and keloid scars.

+
What are the types of scars?

    Types of scars:

  • Atrophic scars: These form a depression or sunken area because of damage to the collagen, fat or other tissues below the skin. These scars are caused by Acne, chickenpox, surgery and accidents.
  • Keloid and hypertrophic scars: These are dense, raised scars that are thicker than surrounding skin. Keloid scars occur when too many cells grow at the site of a skin injury. The resulting tissue covers the wound and some part of surrounding skin. Hypertrophic scars are also raised, but they do not usually expand beyond the wound.

What is Melasma/Hyperpigmentation? How does it occur?

A disorder of the skin characterized by the darkening of skin in patches as compared to the normal surrounding skin. The darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, a brown pigment that produces normal skin colour, form deposits in the skin. The pigmentation is due to overproduction of melanin by the pigment cells.

+
What is the rationale for using combination of Hydroquinone, Tretinoin & Mometasone?

Hydroquinone is the primary topical ingredient for inhibiting melanin production and has potent antioxidant abilities. Hydroquinone does not bleach the skin but lightens it. Tretinoin treats and reduces the appearance of marks by increasing collagen production in the dermis. Mometasone not only reduces inflammation as a side effect of both hydroquinone and tretinoin, but also inhibits melanocyte metabolism. The negative side effect of repeated application of cortisone Mometasone is countered by the positive effect of the tretinoin so that it does not cause thinning of skin and damage to collagen.
